A little bit of poison

Steve and I played a game tonight and it was pretty fun. Steve just got Dr. McMourning and friends when he took second place at a local tournament. At first he wasn’t sure he wanted the crew, even though he wants to play Seamus, but I convinced him to keep him because when you play Resurrectionists you play the faction not the master.  So, this was our second game with him playing McMourning and he is still trying to get down the crew and finesse it to his play style.

I took Lady J with two Death Marshalls, two Witchling stalkers, Lone Marshall, Govenors proxy, Papa Loco, and the judge.

He had McMourning, Sebastian, two Flesh Constructs, two nurses, one belle, The hanged, and a canine remains.

The game was brutal with Lady basically healing most damage and the witchling stalkers shooting off all of the conditions that his crew was handing out.  Between that and Steve having some terrible luck with his cards it was a rough game for the ressers. We ended the game at turn 4 where I had 9 VP to his 0.

We talked to my friend Chad and he suggested we add a Rafkin and some Guild Autopsy or Guild Guards. Does anyone have other suggestions to make this crew more…. hard hitting and less supporty  ?

Please comment ! Lets talk about this 🙂

McMourning is a little hard to learn! He’s super deadly and hard to kill if you play him right – activate him late so he can heal back from any damage. The most common vicious combination I’ve seen for him is Sebastian with Transfusion moves a ton of Poison (from a Guild Autopsy, Flesh Construct, or something that’s been loaded up with Poison by the Chihuahua or Nurse) onto an enemy model, then McMourning Expunges and uses the trigger to summon a Flesh Construct. It’s pretty easy to make the combination go once you get used to it, and every time you turn an enemy into a Flesh Construct it swings the game over a lot. Note also that when McMourning does Expunge, it heals him too!

Rotten Belles have great synergy with Flesh Constructs, since they can drain cards from the enemy with their Lure trigger, which makes the Flesh Constructs get Ceaseless Advance late-game.

McMourning generally wants Moonlighting, and the Upgrade that lets him push 5″ when he takes damage from poison. He should usually be taking Poison damage twice (from Sebastian’s aura) which means a 10″ push every turn!

Scalpel Slingin’ also really increases his speed. (0) to attack and then This One’s Ready to push into base contact means he’s jumping all over the board.

Sebastian is a little fragile but can cause mass damage output when he’s near enemies. Turning Poison +2 into 6 damage in a turn is brutal.

Nurses have some amazing buff/debuffs. One of the best things about them is the way that every one of their effects is either a buff or a debuff depending on the situation. Learning when to use which Take Your Meds trigger really ramps up their offensive potential.

McMourning should be able to turn an enemy into a Flesh Construct each turn.

Performers also go a long way when you hire them as Mercenaries. They spread poison, lure, and have an expunge-like effect (Sip of Wine).

I’ve faced McMourning pretty often and he’s incredibly dangerous once you’ve played a few games with him and learned the combos!

Hello Ted, thanks for the feedback. I don’t think McMourning heals himself with Expunge, as his Organ Donor ability states, “After this model inflicts damage with a MI attack…” Does he have another ability that lets him heal up?

Indeed, my luck was terrible. I knew Lady J was intending to kill Sebastian, but I believed that he could endure one round of attacks from her. After she moved last and had nearly killed him with her sword, I very much needed to gain the initiative next turn. I smiled when my opponent flipped a “2” for initiative, but then I flipped a “1.” I then burned a soulstone to reflip, and I drew a second “1.” Lady J then proceeded to batter Sebastian, and I burned three soulstones on damage prevention, each time only preventing “weak” damage. Finally, with “Onslaught,” Lady J killed him. It was pretty much the worst possible grouping of random outcomes for poor Sebastian.
